About the Event
A Tribute to Friendship, Heritage, and Harmony
The acclaimed Houston Brass Band joins the Galveston Symphony Orchestra for a spectacular evening honoring 200 years of Norwegian immigration to the United States and the 45-year sister-city bond between Houston, Galveston, and Stavanger, Norway.
Under the baton of renowned Norwegian conductor and violinist Trond Saeverud, the Galveston Symphony performs Harald Sæverud’s Symphony No. 6, “Sinfonia Dolorosa” — a deeply expressive and moving work by the conductor’s own grandfather.
The Houston Brass Band, led by Music Director Richard Spitz, presents the world premiere of Rodney Newton’s newly revised work, Crossings — originally commissioned as Long Ships- recreated by the composer for this special occasion.
