PETITION BY THE NACC SOUTHWEST CHAPTER
Tell the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs not to close the
Consulate General in Houston
The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has announced its plans to close several diplomatic missions in 2023, namely "embassies in Bratislava (Slovakia), Colombo (Sri Lanka) and Pristina (Kosovo), the embassy office in Antananarivo (Madagascar) and the Consulate General in Houston (USA)".
The Norwegian Consulate General (CG) in Houston has been Norway's diplomatic mission in the city since 1977. The CG provides consular services for the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, home to 25% of US population. Houston is becoming the leader in technology development within aerospace, health, sustainability, shipping and energy, all of which are defined as core and future growth areas for Norway. Texas is among the fastest growing state in the US with major tech and clean energy business’ all relocating to, and Houston representing hundreds of Norwegian business and thousands of Norwegian citizens, one of the biggest Norwegian hubs in the world.
Your NACC Southwest Chapter wishes to take action. We have started an online petition, which will be included in a formal letter to the MFA. We ask for our members support by signing the petition, then sharing it with your network, and all of those who would be directly or indirectly impacted by this decision.
